In recent years it has become very important to gain Pole Position at a Grand Prix. This is because most modern circuits have been constructed to make it increasingly difficult for cars to pass each other. This fact is also exacerbated by the cars in the leading teams being more evenly matched than ever before. The advantage therefore of having 'pole’ is that the leader always has the racing line which, in turn, means that whoever wants to pass them has to race harder and faster than the car in front. |
