1980 | In view of the interest and attention shown towards the subject of six wheel racing cars over the past few seasons it is natural that a six wheel model should be included in the Scalextric line-up. The concept of four rear wheels developed by March cars allows the rear wheels to be reduced in size thus generating considerable improvements in air flow around the rear of the car and reducing drag. This years model is shown in a green racing livery. |
1981 | The only 6 wheel model available in the Scalextric range the March 771 handles extremely well. The theory behind 6 wheel cars was that the rear wheels could be reduced in size improving airflow and reducing drag. |
1982 | Designed and produced by March Engineering the 771 six wheeler was introduced in an effort to combat the problem of air flow and drag around the rear of the car. Reducing the size of the rear wheels alone was not sufficient in that the roadholding and thus the control of the car was considerably reduced. This reduction in roadholding was counteracted by having four rear wheels instead of two.
One of the most distinctive cars in the Scalextric range the March 771 has a long narrow body. The model is extended by the extra pair of wheels at the back making up the complete 4-wheel rear assembly. The additional wheels are not used for driving the model but do help in the handling. The engine and gearbox detail is exceptionally good and contrasts well with the green and white racing colours. The fine handling characteristics of this model make it an ideal model to commence driving in the Super Formula class. |
