The atmosphere comes from the unique Rev-Start track which incorporates a smoke element positioned underneath the track which vapourises a harmless oil, creating the appearance of smoke coming from the rear of each car.
The cars are held off the track by supports which lower into the track bed when the release switch is pulled back. Once the spinning wheels grip the track the smoke stops and the race is on.
